Return to Mandalas

Lunar bodies become solar bodies

June 1995 to April 1998.

In 1995, I noticed that, in my post-session ‘mandalas’, I was drawing a crescent Moon (or occasionally moons) and a round Sun. But this meant nothing to me. I had no idea why I was drawing them. Then I noticed that, over time, the Sun was getting bigger and the crescent Moon smaller until there was only a Sun. But it meant nothing to me… (more below)…

I was surprised when the sequence started again: crescent Moon and round Sun. Was my journey going around in circles??? But I was not recycling issues in my sessions. They weren’t going around in circles.

(Note that I was always drawing such mandalas unconsciously. I would feel attracted to a colour, pick it up and then my hand would do whatever it would do on the page with that colour. I wasn’t drawing from some inner vision or anything conscious at all.)

I even looked up Sun and Moon in things like dictionaries of symbols but nothing there seemed relevant.

I continued to draw mandalas unconsciously after sessions and again, the crescent Moon tended smaller and the Sun got bigger until there seemed to be only a Sun. And then the process would start again… and again…

When I had a house built, I even put a round stained glass in the front that consisted of a crescent Moon with a Sun above it. But I still didn’t understand what it meant.

In 1997, I was doing the advanced classes with the then Universal Christian Gnostic Movement in Sydney. They talked about how we are born with bodies of a lunar vibration and then, if we did their particular brand of inner work (tantric sex), over time the lunar bodies would be transformed into solar bodies. The lunar body ‘dies’ as the solar one is built. This happens seven times for seven bodies: physical, life-force, emotional, mental and three spiritual bodies. They called this ‘The First Mountain’.

But  I didn’t connect this to the mandala sequences I had been drawing for years. (D’oh!) I regarded this as some vague theoretical possibility in my future inner path.

It was only when I went on a retreat in September that year and, after a breath session, I found myself again drawing a crescent moon and a Sun that I thought: ‘Holy crap! This is what I’ve been drawing all this time. Moons getting smaller as Suns got bigger. Holy crap.’

Weeks later, when I let  slip about this to the teachers at the Universal Christian Gnostic Movement, they told me that this was impossible as it hadn’t been done using their techniques. (So much for it being ‘gnostic’). This caused me to discontinue classes… but remain forever grateful for the clarification they gave me.

They also talked of two more mountains:

The Second Mountain. Solar Bodies become Golden Bodies.

The Third Mountain. Golden Bodies become Bodies of Light.

Next: Solar Bodies become Golden Bodies
